A client called today regarding how to transplant a potted hydrangea she got as a gift outdoors. These hydrangeas often wrapped in foil are quite different than the hydrangeas you would buy at a nursery. The plant has been fed specifically to produce many large blooms quickly. They are also often grown in greenhouses and might not be winter hardy enough to make it through our Kansas cold temperatures. To make your gift last as long as possible indoors- make sure it is in a cool place with plenty of sunlight. Only water once the soil is completely dry to the touch.
