The 2013 tulip harvest is finally under way in the Netherlands, a good two weeks later than normal. Unusually cold weather there this spring delayed flowering and slowed growth. The bulb growers are under a lot of pressure to dig their bulbs prematurely because the exporters have schedules to keep.
Bulbs that are harvested prematurely can have problems. If we have to wait to get them, we will—and hope that customers who like to have their bulbs early will be patient.
