Spring has sprung for plants and children.....

We all know that plants do most of their growing in the spring.  Did you know that children also tend to grow more in the spring?

A notch in a tree will remain the same distance from the ground as the tree grows.

Fertilizing Hydrangeas

Hydrangeas are best fertilized twice a summer.  Apply a slow release 10-10-10 fertilizer in the early summer, like Osmocote, to the amended soil around the base of the plant.  Apply a liquid or powder fertilizer in May and July for best results, such as Miracle Gro.  Follow the directions on quantity applied and err on the side of too little amount as opposed to too much.  Never fertilize a plant that is wilting or looking sick.  The plant will only be under more stress with the fertilizer application.  Do not fertilize after August!

Rain sensors save $$$$

Did you know that rain sensors are required by law in many states?  Rain sensors can be retrofitted to fit nearly any controller to save you $$$$ and conserve our most important natural resource, water.  There is also new technology called "smart sync" that considers temperature, wind & rain to properly calibrate as needed depending on the current weather conditions.

National Public Garden Day

in

National Public Garden Day is the Friday before Mother's day, held to show residents how public gardens can play a role in the community.  It is the ideal time to visit your local botanical garden or arboretum.  Many of these centers are the creators of new varieties of plants and play a role in keeping endangered species alive.  Many outreach programs are going on this weekend to teach the basics of gardening and landscaping.
