Why Are My Daffodils Not Blooming???
Are your daffodils not showing their smiling face yet? Are your bulbs only producing foliage? Try the following to see improvements in next year's color...
- The bulbs might need dividing. After a couple years the original bulb will grow offspring bulbs, attached to the base. These can easily be pulled off and planted individually. Dig them up and divide in early fall.
- They might be planted too deep. As a guideline, plant the bulb twice the depth as the bulb is wide. For daffodils this is a little bit more deeper than your tulip and crocus bulbs. Check out package instructions for exact measurements.
- The previous year's foliage was cut off too early. The daffodil needs to retain the foliage in order to obtain sunlight and store energy in the bulb for upcoming year's blooms. Do not cut them back until the foliage is completely died back.
