This is also important to ensure that all water being used by the system is being utilized efficiently, eliminating unnecessary runoff that is costly to your pocketbook and the environment.

We strongly recommend only seeding cool season grasses (bluegrass and fescue) in the fall. Spring seeding is not recommended because it interferes with applying pre-emergent (crabgrass preventor) applications. In addition, Immature root systems of spring seeded turfgrasses have a very hard time making it through our hot summers.
Watering will change with as the season and the climates change. Unfortunately, there isn’t an accurate explanation on how much to water. A best guess estimate would be to provide the lawn with 1” of moisture through the spring and fall growing months and increase to 1.5-2” during the hot, stressful summer months. You can follow our schedule updates from our homepage to receive weekly updates throughout the season on watering recommendations.
During summer months or period when nighttime temps reach 65 degrees or higher, it is not recommended to water in the evening hours as this can encourage fungi development.
Proper mowing height through the season are as follows:
- Spring - 3-3.25”
- Summer - 3.25-3.5”
- Fall - 2.75-3”
Mow high during high stress periods like in the summer.
Grass clippings are beneficial to the existing turf and should not be removed from the lawn unless the plant is so high at mowing time that it will leave “grass clumps” in the lawn. Grass clippings return nutrients and organic matter to the soil which helps the existing stand.
